Syrian Ambassador in Washington: US stirs up crisis in Syria, US State Department’s latest statements aim at harming Syria
Syrian Ambassador in Washington, Dr.Imad Mustafa, affirmed on Saturday that the US is always seeking to stir up the current crisis in Syria to make use of it politically, adding that the US State Department’s latest statements on Syria prove that the US will spare no effort to harm Syria.
In an interview with the Syrian TV, Ambassador Mustafa said that the role of the US in the current crisis is multilateral. The US role stems from a political attitude which is that the US and Syria have been confronting each other for decades because the Syrian stances often do not appeal to the US. Since the 1950s, the Syrian-US relationship has been characterized by “tension” because of the nature of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
He clarified that Syria has been a thorn in the side of the US for a very long time, adding that the US and its allies felt irritated by the Arab initiative, and they judged from the first moment and proactively that the initiative will not succeed.
Dr. Mustafa added that the US is ready to do anything to prevent dialogue from being held in Syria, pointing out that the recent sanctions on Syria, imposed by the US, are “caricatural” because the date of those sanctions goes back to 1956 until they reached their height in 2004.
He stressed that the Syrian Government’s approach to the current crisis has separated between the security and the political sides. Politically, the government is working to meet the demands of large sections of the Syrian people. Concerning security, the Syrian Government cannot allow, like all other countries of the world, the armed terrorist groups to commit crimes of killing against the Syrian people.
Ambassador Mustafa added that the US accusations against the Syrian Embassy in Washington of intimidating protesters are a part of a campaign during which Syrian ambassadors were summoned by tens of US-allied countries to accuse them of videotaping Syrian protesters and sending the footages to Syria.
Dr. Mustafa noted that the US Ambassador in Damascus, Robert Ford, has several times violated the Vienna Convention which regulates diplomatic relations among countries of the world .
